This pepper is the fruit of a giant vine, the Piper nigrum.

Since 2014, Penja pepper has been the first PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) on the African continent.

It is grown in the Mungo Valley, at Penja in Cameroon. This region with very fertile volcanic land gives Penja pepper its special taste!

It is picked when ripe, washed, stripped of its pulp, and then dried in the sun. All stages of production are entirely manual and carried out by the women of the village. Penja pepper today enjoys worldwide recognized gastronomic success.

Penja Pepper is a full-bodied pepper, with a wild and spicy character. It releases a powerful taste with woody, amber and musky notes. It has a great length in the mouth. Its animal notes go perfectly with a game dish, red or white meat, fish or in a salad. It is also suitable in desserts.
